Qigong
What is Qigong?
There is no direct translation for the Chinese word Qi, it is often referred to as ‘life force’, breath, and vitality. It is the substance that animates a being. A healthy reservour for Qi can only be useful for a being when it is flowing clear and smoothly. When the qi is stagnant or turbid is when persons can become ill and experience disease. The word – gong translates to mean work. Therefore Qigong is the practice of working ones qi, strengthening ones vital energy. As I see it, it is the practice of self healing and the opportunity for each of us to experience true health.
To practice qigong is to fortify your body, as you would nourish your body with the fuel of food. It is a practice not used only for a limited amount of time in ones life. A healthy practice of qigong can begin at any age.
Anyone can practice qigong. There is no need for special equipment, clothes or workout space. Students generally practice an average of 20-40 minutes per day.
Molly Romero is AHH’s resident Qigong practitioner.
